Even at speeds of over 350 km/ph Formula 1 racing is considered to be one of the safest sport in the world. That’s because of the entire sport centres around keeping the drivers safe no matter how fast they go. Formula 1 may easily have the highest safety standards in any sport and it is testament to their dedication and hard work. Let’s have a look at some of the safety precautions taken in F1 racing.

Cockpit safety
The cockpit is like the driver’s survival pod! It is not only the heart of the F1 car but what helps to keep the driver safe in case of any collision. It is constructed with the carbon fibre that is laminated with woven panels. It must be 2.7 feet long, at least 1.14 feet wide at the pedals and 1.47 feet wide at the steering wheel, with the rear half wider still at 1.70 feet. The rear 1.23 feet of the cockpit’s side walls must rise upwards at an angle of at least 16 degrees.

No fuel, water or oil lines are allowed to pass directly through the cockpit.
The constant temperature inside the cockpit is around 50 degrees Celsius.
The driver should be able to get out from the cockpit in less than five minutes of collision by just removing his steering wheel and seat belt.

It is mandatory for Formula 1 cars have to be fitted what a fire extinguishing system. In this system foam spread across the chassis and engine in case of a fire.

All Formula 1 cars must undergo crash tests. Only after they are declared fit for use are they allowed to race. The tests are supervised by the FIA.

Safety Gear
Wearing a helmet is compulsory in F1 racing. Special light weight helmets are designed for the drivers which undergo their own set of tests!

The helmets are extremely light but made up two layers one layer is made up of fibre-reinforced resin over carbon fibre and another layer of aramid the same material used in bulletproof vests. The visors of the helmets are made of special polycarbonate that is offers greater visibility and resistance to fire.

HANS, is a special gear called head and neck support is special safety system that provides extra support to the driver. It is attached to the driver’s helmet with the help of two elastic straps and is found under the two safety belts. HANS keeps the driver’s head from hitting the steering wheel and the vertebrae from stretching.
Gloves and driver’s suit is mandatory for the drivers in Formula 1. The suit is light and fire resistance. It must withstand temperatures of 600 to 800 degrees Celsius. The suit has two handles on the shoulder area. These handles are strong enough to handle the weight of the seat and the driver. The gloves are reduce the friction between the hands and the steering wheel.

The driver of an F1 car is made to wear ankle boots that are fire proof and made with thinner rubber soles that provide slip-free contact with the car’s pedals. Drivers also wear fire proof underwear!
There are many more safety precautions taken by the FIA to ensure that Formula 1 remains safe. They have an excellent medial and track safety systems in place to take of any unforeseen troubles as well

Arts and Crafts have been a part of Australian culture since time can remember right from paintings done on cave walls to fabrics sewn from animal hide. The development of new and interesting techniques in the crafts department has led to a revolution in the world of crafts in Australia. As many are involved in leisure sports in Australia so are many in the crafts industry as well. Today arts and crafts are even recognised by the Australian government and has a special policies developed to safeguard the people’s interest.

There are many crafts that are regularly followed in Australia here are few at the top of the list:

Pottery and Ceramics
Pottery made from clay, porcelain, china, fiberglass, paper mache and many other interesting materials have an important place in Australian crafts. Many are even made especially for export purposes. Ceramics also includes pots, dishes, figurines and other decorative items. These ceramic items can be expensive at times especially when they are handcrafted and one of a kind.

Mosaic Art
Mosaic is an image made up of many different pieces of a certain material or is made up different fabrics or images. The colours and vibrancy of Australian life is shown through this craft form and is great hit with people not only across the continent but even across the world.

Embroidery and Needlework
Now of course we don’t need to explain what embroidery and needlework is, but it is a fast growing industry with demands increasing for customized embroidery work for couture fashion lines. Embroidery and needle work is one such aspect of Australian crafts that has made a place in the commercial fashion and design world.

Crochet
Crochet is made with fine threads that are woven together in such a way that you get a cloth or fabric made with soft, beautiful designs. Many even make crochet table cloths, cushion covers, bed spreads and even curtains. Crochet is a painstaking craft as you have to invest days and days if not months to complete one project. Crochet is used as beautiful lace for women’s dresses and is a favourite for wedding gowns as it is soft, delicate and very feminine.

Scrapbook
Scrap booking is one of the newer additions to the crafts industry as opposed to the traditional craft forms. Scrapbooks are way to preserve the history of your friends and family in a beautifully decorated book that can be passed down generations. These scrapbooks are painstakingly handmade so that each one is unique and as special as your memories.

Woodwork
As in important part in leisure sports and activities we cannot do without mentioning woodwork. Figurines made from wood are one of the most selling crafts in Australia. These wood works are made even by commission and so you can have one of a kind decorative piece to either adorn your mantelpiece or be a focal design point in the living room. You even have beautiful handcrafted trellis which can be used in the garden or on your patio.

So these are a few of the crafts that are extremely popular in Australia and even overseas.

Tennis is one of the most loved games in the world and is enjoyed my people of all ages. It used to be the game of royals and upper class snoots and was introduced to the world by King Henry VIII. Tennis is a fairly simple game, maybe even the easiest to understand as compared to cricket or football! But for those who need a little more information about tennis and its rules here the very basics.

A maximum number of four players can play tennis at one time. You can have singles matches or doubles matches as well. You will also find mixed doubles matches played in international tennis tournaments.
It is played on a grass court, clay court or hard court. The tennis playing field is rectangular box which is 78 feet long and almost 27 feet wide. A net is placed right at the centre of the court diving it into two equal portions. The net is 1.07 m high at the posts, and 3 feet (914 mm) high in the centre. Additional space is left on the marked sides of court for convenience.

The furthest sides of court are the baselines surrounded by the sidelines. The centre is also marked with a line on either side. These lines act as play parameters and boundaries.

The basic pay in tennis is to win the rally against the opponent. You begin with a player on each side, one serving to another. They stand diagonally opposite to each there which means if the server is on the left hand side of court the receiver has to be on the right hand side of his end.

Service rules states that the tennis ball has to be tossed overhead before being hit. Once hit the ball is hit, it should not touch the net and must land in the diagonally opposite service court with exactly one bounce. If the ball hits the net, goes beyond the sidelines or lands in the wrong diagonal box it is declared a foul and the server is given a chance to re-serve. If the server fouls twice in row a point is awarded to the opponent. The service alternates between the two halves with every game.
The scoring system in tennis is a play of four points played with the same player serving. You have to win with a difference of two points. The score for each point starts with zero or ‘love’, 15, 30 and forty. If both players reach forty it is called ‘deuce’. ‘Advantage’ is when three points have been scored by both players and one of them has one more point than his opponent. The advantage is then given for the player in the lead. Another scoring terminology is ‘break – point’. This is when receiver has chance to beat the server at his game. In tennis losing your service game can be extremely detrimental as serving is very beneficial. You also have game point, set point and in case of international tournaments championship point. This is when the leading player needs only one to win a game, set or match.
International tennis is played in 5 sets consisting of 6 games each in case of the men and 3 sets in case of women. The set can only be won with a difference of two games, which means one player has to win at least two games more than the other to claim the set. Sometimes when the match is close then it is possible for one player to win six games and the opponent five. In this case another game is played. If the leading player wins that game, the player wins the set 7–5. If the leading player doesn’t win, the match gets tied at 6-6 and a tie breaker is played. The tie breaker is play of minimum of seven points with a 2 point difference to win. 7-5 is the apt score if there are no more ties. If the players remain tied at 6-6 in the tie breaker, they maintain play till someone gets the two point difference.

These are just the basic rules of tennis. Like any other sport you will learn as you go along. So take up tennis and enjoy breaking the rules as much you love sticking to them!

Formula 1 also known as F1 is considered the cream of all car racing events and is the home of some of the best racing heroes in the world. There have been several famous and very successful F1 drivers, but only a few have achieved the status of being a F1 Legend. These stalwarts of the racing circuit have created history, that can’t be matched for a long time.

Michael Schumacher
We can’t begin the mention of F1 legends without starting off with Michael Schumacher. This 7 time world champion started off his career on the F1 track in 1991 and retired from the circuit in 2006. He has today come back from his sabbatical and made a re-entry onto the F1 track with the first race in March 2010 in Bahrain. Michael Schumacher is one of the most celebrated F1 drivers and has broken most of the racing records there are today. He has won the most number of F1 Drivers title Championships, 7 of them in ’94, ’95, 2000, ’01, ’02, ’03 and ’04 and he has wowed not to retire till he doesn’t bag his 8th World Championship title. Schumi as he is fondly called started off his career with Benetton and then moved on to the ailing Ferrari and was the number one reason that the team was given a second lease at sporting life. He has the maximum number of pole positions, 68, holds 91 Grand Prix victories, six consecutive Constructor’s Championships from 1999 to 2004 and has a record 250 grand Prix starts to his name. He is also the only one to have the maximum wins in one season, 13races out of 18.

Juan Manuel Fangio
This Argentine had a F1 career from 1950-1958 and has won been the World Champion five times, 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957. Fangio is considered to be one of the most impressive legends in the F1 history. He was known for his easy control on the car and his ability to take even the most ailing cars across the finish line. His most impressive race was in the German Grand Prix in 1957 when a mistake at the pit stop cost him 50 seconds in race time, but he cruised ahead of the leader with a lap to spare in his Maserati to win the race.

Ayrton Senna
Ayrton Senna was from Brazil and started off his Grand Prix career in 1984 to end it in 1994. He won the World Championship in 1988, 1990 and 1991. He is regarded one of the fastest drivers ever over a single lap. He achieved success and love of his countrymen usually reserved only for the footballers, but in 1994 the world of F1 and the entire world suffered a great loss when they lost Ayrton Senna at Imola. Senna’s most impressive race was in April 1993 at Donington where he was fourth in the grid behind Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher. Not caring about the pouring rain he overtook the three to a stunning win with only Damon Hill on the same lap as he.

Other legends that warrant mentioning here are Alain Prost, Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss, Gilles Villeneuve, Mario Andretti, Jacques Villeneuve, Jack Brabham, Alberto Ascari, Nelson Piquet and many many more.

Rugby is one of the most demanding sports in the world. It is contact sport played with an almond or pro late spheroid ball. The game consists of two teams of 13 players each. The game is played on a rectangular field and is extremely popular in countries like England, New Zealand, Papa New Guinea, Fiji and Australia. Rugby league football differs from Rugby union Football.

Just like football and cricket clubs rugby has its own governing body. Ruby league has two club leagues across the world. It is made up of five different countries. The first one is the European Super league which is made up of 14 members. It has one team each from France and Wales and the rest from England. The other is the Australian Rugby League with more than 15 members from Australia itself. It’s no wonder that Rugby is the most popular game in Australia. The names of members that are a part of the Australian Ruby League are as follows.

Brisbane Broncos

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

Canberra Raiders

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

Gold Coast Titans

St George Illawarra Dragons

South Sydney Rabbitohs

Sydney Roosters

Wests Tigers

The Australian Ruby league also includes one team from New Zealand and they are the New Zealand Warriors. The Australian Ruby League has a rich heritage and has a big role to play in keep the game alive. It is responsible for organising round robin matches and other tournaments throughout the year. The very famous Ruby League State of Origin series is tournament played in Australia between NSW and Queensland teams. Rugby league is a very popular winter sport especially in Queensland and NSW. So you can say that half the people of Australia are mad about Rugby. We previously spoke about the Australian Ruby League’s heritage. Here are five fun facts about the ruby league.

At one point in a 1974 rugby match the man if the match one a pair of jeans!
In 1908, the admission cost to a game was 10 cents.
The biggest rugby league crowd was 104,583 at the Sydney Olympic Stadium in March 1999.

While Formula 1 may be one of the most exciting and thrilling sports in world you cant deny the adverse effects it has on the environment. After all we are taking about more than 60 cars racing at one time! We can applaud the FIA for all the precautions they take but there is only so much they can do about the adverse effects the sport has on the environment. Let’s now list out some of the environmental concerns.

Let’s begin with the F1 circuit. While some races take place on the main roads of the city, others take place of specially constructed Formula 1 tracks. Constructing a Formula 1 tracks isn’t easy at all. There are many pre requisites and a lot of ground work to cover. You require land space that is big enough to accommodate the track as well enough as place to seat the many spectators. The land available may not be bare and it may require the felling if trees to begin construction. It’s not only the felling of trees but also the sheer magnitude of natural resources that go into constructing a circuit that sets of alarms bells.

As we all know Formula 1 races take place all over the world. This means that people and equipment have to be transported from one place to another only increasing energy costs along the way. The price is paid by the environment in the long run.

A Formula 1 car has to undergo a large amount of crash and impact tests. It also has to race! On the basis of a 2.4 litre engine an average F1 car consumes more than 150 kilograms of petrol per race. Let’s not forget about the carbon emissions of each car for every race. Add to that the others tests and you can calculate for yourself the amount of fuel consumed and wasted on sport.

Formula 1 is a noisy sport! After all we are talking about fast cars, blow horns and other screeches! You can’t help but wonder about the effect the sport has on sound pollution. While efforts are being made to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions, there is only so much once can do reduce noise pollution.

Formula 1 has become more responsible over the years. They now have a Formula 1 emissions programme that works towards reducing carbon emissions. It is said that in the next two years Formula 1 carbon emissions will reduce by 15%. Research and development is a big part of F1 racing as teams are constantly finding new ways for a safer racing, protecting the environment and the drivers.

Tennis is a great game, one that requires skill, talent and a little bit of luck! No one become Pete Sampras or Roger Federer overnight. It requires sincere dedication and a lot of hard work. So if you are tennis player looking to improve your game here are few things to keep in mind.

Get in shape
Tennis requires agility and stamina. You have to nimble on your feet and get to every ball, however fats it may be. For that you need to fit. So watch your weight and follow a good diet, one that helps you build muscles as well as give you ample energy to play a good game.

Look after yourself on court
An injury can set you back. So be sure to warm up before you start playing. This will keep unwanted pulls and muscles aches away. After practice be sure to cool off and relax your muscles.

Put in the work
Practice, practice and practice some more. You have to be consistent and patient. Practice regularly and concentrate on different aspects of your training. Remember you will only get better with practice and the more hours you put in on the practice courts the better it is for you.

It’s up to the couch
To be a good tennis player you need a good coach to guide you. So choose a good coach and trust his teaching techniques and listen to his critique. Its important for someone to evaluate your game and give you the high’s and low’s of play. That’s what a coach can do for you other give you support and guidance.

Tournaments and matches
Wither they are friendly or competitive be sure to compete in matches as often as possible. Don’t worry about the outcome. It’s about putting in time and learning to play against different opponents with different playing styles. You will only grow as a player. Never let defeat bog you down. Remember you win some you lose some!
Know your strengths.

Remember Sampras’s serve? He could almost win a whole match on his serve! Know what your strengths are and make it a weapon to be feared. Work hard and finding your unique skill and you will be a force to reckon with.

Volleys and returns
It’s not about getting to short on the baselines it’s also about taking the opponent by surprise and changing the volley a bit. Come towards the net and practice volleys from the centre mark. It will help your game tremendously. In tennis you need to get your basic rights. So do what it takes to get you back hand and forehand right. Other than that you need to Increase your net approaches by 10 pr set, reduce unforced errors and aim at increasing your first service percentage from 55% to 70%.

The Aussies love their sport. It would not be wrong to call them a ‘sporting’ nation! Whether its cricket or rugby, the Australians are a force to reckon with. In fact Australians have won the rugby world cup maximum number of times over taking any other nation. Now let’s talk about football in Australia. It goes without saying that the Australians love their football! ‘Footy’ as it is known colloquially, interestingly has different meaning in different parts of the country. While it still means a game with a ball, it also means that there are different codes of the game that the Australians follow. There are four major football codes followed the first being the AFL which is the Australian Football League, ARU – The Australian Rugby Union, NRL – National Rugby League and FFA – Football Federation Australia.

Each part of Australia has its favoured cricket code. It’s Australian Rules Football for the people living in the west and south as well Tasmania. The people New South Wales and Queensland prefer to think of football as rugby. And if someone in Australia tells you that they play soccer is means the FFA. Let’s find out a little more about each of the football codes.

Australian Football League
AFL is also called Aussie Rules football and has a dedicated fan following across various parts of Australia. No one ever thought this game would be as popular as it is today. After all it was meant to be a way to keep crickets in good shape in the off season. But as time went by, the Aussie Rules become extremely popular with the first ever competition bang held in 1866. The game has its roots in Melbourne.

Football Federation Australia
Australian soccer is played by more the 250 million people across the continent. It is extremely popular and taught in school as well. Australia has a national football team called the Socceroos. Australia qualified for the FIFA World Cup held in Brazil earlier this year. Australia also has a women’s football team called the Matildas.

National Rugby League
Rugby League was played in Australia in the early 1900’s. It originated in England and spread across the country through British colonies. The Australia National League is made up of 15 teams, 14 from Australia and one from New Zealand. Rugby League is played internationally as well. The Australian team is called the Kangaroos.

Australian Rugby Union
Rugby Union differs from Rugby League. Australia’s first rugby union club was formed in 1863. Unlike the Rugby League that is played with 13 players on each side, Rugby Union is played with 15 players. The new variation of Rugby Union is the Rugby 7’s with seven players on each team. Australia’s international Rugby Union team is called the Wallabies.

Rugby is a hard core contact sport loved by the Aussie’s and Kiwis. It is also played in England and has a fan following all over the world. But for some of us rugby isn’t easy to understand. So here are the very basic rules of ruby. Hopefully it should make the game simpler to understand.

Ruby is played between two players of 13 players each. The game is played on a grass, rectangular playing field which is about 100 meters wide and 69 meters wide. The field is marked in a particular way with H shaped posts on each end at the goal line. A halfway line is market on wither end almost 50 meters from the goal line. Another line is marked on either end which is 10 meters from the halfway line. This line is primarily for kick offs. Other lines are marked on the field that are perpendicular from the sidelines almost 20 meters from the halfway lines.

The game begins with a coin toss between the captains. The winning captain decides to either receive or kick. If the team decides to receive they become the attackers. The winning team also choose which half of the field is theirs. This reverses at half time. The game begins when once team kicks the ball from the centre of field. The receiving team has to try and score by passing the ball to another from the back while being tackled by the opposing team. The receiving team has a chance to score with a maximum of six tackles.

Rugby scoring is a little different as compared to other sports. The best of way scoring in rugby is the try which is basically grounding the ball on the goal line which gives the team four points. The scoring team then has a chance to convert the try into a goal which will change the four points into six. In goal the ball has to be kicked over the H posts cross bars opposite the position of the try.

In case of a foul the team is awarded either a two kick penalty from the place where the offence took place or awarded a set of six tackles it the main aim of getting the 4 point try. In case of a penalty committed against a player who is scoring a try, the scoring team is awarded a penalty kick with a chance to convert the try with an 8 point kick.

These are just the basic of rugby league. There are many more rules, tactics and strategies but those come into play a little later after the game becomes a little easier to understand!

Dos and Dont’s in Rugby
Page Title: Understanding ruby league better
Meta Content: The basics of ruby league

No one said rugby was easy. It is after all a tough guy’s sport! Strong in mind and body is a survival mantra in rugby. Like any sport winning is everything. Now some times winning just doesn’t depend on the things you and don’t do! So here are some things to make you a better player.

Ruby requires high stamina and tremendous amounts of energy. You may have to be big in rugby to tackle players or even scare them off but you also have to be quick on your feet. Be sure to pay extra attention to fitness and follow a good diet. Your diet should help you build muscle and at the same time give you ample energy to play.

It’s important to understand the game and experiment with various strategies and techniques. Pay attentions to the rucks and scrums but remember that your game doesn’t rest on that. Don’t forget to use your feet in a ruck, using your feet could make all the difference.

Rugby is all about communication and team work. It’s important to remember what you play as one and do what’s best for the team and not to improve your individual score. How you play and what you do can effect the entire team.

Rugby is aggressive but you have to remember to keep your emotions out of it. Play the game without any animosity and harbouring any ill feelings for the opposing team. Remember that animosity can lead to unnecessary fouls and penalties. The last thing you want is to add to the visitors’ scoreboard. Like we said before it is game where 13 people play as one, so don’t run away from support at least if you want to have forwards in the last half of the game.

Protect yourself from injuries at all time. Your teeth need the mouth guard, your minor cuts and wounds need to tended to immediately and ice packs need to be made handy for muscle pulls and sprains.

More than anything don’t be scared and play with your heart. Remember always to prevent a try and maintain defence!
